Franco is available at Naws in Mokena, IL.
I'd like to showcase Franco, a remarkably sweet 7-year-old Pitbull mix, who continues to wait for his perfect match at NAWS Humane Society of Illinois. With his super affectionate, adventurous, and lovable personality, he would thrive in a family environment. If a happy life filled with cuddles and kisses is what you're seeking, don't wait any longer to meet Franco. He's sure to capture your heart.

EJ is currently at Famous Fido Rescue in Chicago, Illinois.
We saved EJ from the euthanasia table.
Those words still don’t feel real...
EJ was only a year old when the vet called us and said his family had brought him in to be put to sleep because he didn’t get along with their new dog. A young, healthy, beautiful life that scheduled to end over something that should have been worked through, not given up on. Can you imagine if every family chose to give up on a child after a fight with a sibling? It’s unthinkable.
And yet this is what animals face every single day. That’s why we said yes. That’s why we stepped in.
At the time, we didn’t even have physical space to bring EJ into our building. But we refused to let that be the end of his story. We coordinated with the vet to board him there until we could make room, and the moment we could, we brought him home to Famous Fido Rescue. Our commitment to EJ has never wavered.
Now we need someone to step forward for him.
EJ may not be a fit for a home with other dogs, and that’s okay. What matters is finding the right home. A home where the space is open just for him. A home where he is cherished, protected, and never again made to feel disposable.
He is a big, precious boy with a huge heart. He deserves love. He deserves safety. He deserves stability. He deserves a family who will see the value of his life and hold onto him through every chapter.
If you are interested in meeting EJ, please apply to adopt on our website: https://famousfidorescue.org/dog-adoption-application.
If you’re not in a position to adopt but want to help, donations are deeply needed to support his care while he waits for his forever home: https://famousfidorescue.org/donate
EJ’s heart has not yet been sponsored on our Tree of Hearts. If you’d like to sponsor his heart and show him he is loved, you can do so here:
https://famousfidorescue.org/product/tree-of-hearts/
Please share EJ’s story. Help us find the family who will never give up on him.

Hallelujah is currently available through Chicago Animal Control in Illinois.
Last post for this dog, Hallelujah, she came in as a lost dog the end of December to Chicago Animal Control. She came in starving condition, she was probably dumped on the streets after they took her puppies😢😢 She is shy but very sweet and now her life will end😢She won’t get her second chance to know what life can be with love! She needs a home to get out of this high kill shelter who is full with dogs coming in, daily.
Please share her one last time in hopes she finds one person that will save her.

Luna is available through Naws in Mokena, IL.
Luna is a four-year-old Husky with the most striking blue eyes and a heart that belongs entirely to people. She was adopted from us years ago and recently returned through no fault of her own—she simply prefers not to share her space with other dogs.
What Luna does love? People, people, and more people.
She is incredibly affectionate, thrives on attention, and is wonderful with kids. At around 50 pounds, she’s the perfect size for adventures, couch cuddles, and everything in between.
Luna would do best as the only pet in the home—no dogs or cats—so she can soak up all the love and attention she truly deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal, people-loving companion who will adore you endlessly, Luna just might be your girl.
Four years old
About 50 lbs
Great with kids
Loves people
Only pet home
Luna is ready to be someone’s whole world. Could that be you?
The NAWS Dog Adoption Program operates as rescue versus a shelter. We believe in match.

Coraline is still waiting at Naws in Mokena iL.
Just under a year old, Coraline has spent nearly her entire life in our care. Growing up at NAWS while the world moved on without her... Our hearts break for her daily.
Coraline came to us with her 2 siblings, all of them found with zip ties around their necks. While we’ll never know what happened to them, Coraline told us everything we needed to know with her fear and weariness of people. She was the most afraid. The one who shook in the corner. The one who wouldn’t make eye contact. The one we knew had been hurt the most..
Her siblings have all been adopted. Their new lives began… but Coraline was left behind.
And still, she waits..
Coraline is a Pittie mix with a gentle soul and eyes that carry the weight of what she’s been through. She’s made progress with us, but she needs more than we can give, she needs a home.
She needs someone patient. Someone kind. Someone who will see her not as broken, but as becoming. Because we’ve seen glimpses of the dog she’s meant to be, the tail wags, the soft lean into your leg, the quiet trust slowly building. Coraline does well with other dogs and would prefer a home with older children.
✨ Coraline deserves that chance. ✨
🖤Coraline would greatly benefit from a foster home while she waits for her forever to come. If you are interested in fostering, email Victoria at Victoria@nawus.org.🖤
If you would like to meet Coraline, please submit an Adoption Application at the link below⬇️ or contact Dogadoption@nawsus.org to get in touch with our team.

DIVA and Ella can be helped through Traveling Tails Dog Rescue
Please, Please, Please Share these girls! 🙏
Diva and Ella say STILL need a home! On June 4th it was a year that they have been without a forever home 😭
Diva and Ella from Afghanistan were returned back to the rescue a few weeks ago. After months of looking for a match for either one or both of the girls, they are back with us in foster.
Please help us find them a home either together or sadly separately at this point.
Both girls are 3 years old, around 38 pounds, potty trained and good with other dogs. We are requiring a fenced yard and a doggie friend for them if they get fostered or adopted separately. Ella is good with kids and Diva is shy around new people and would do better with older kids. No cats! These two girls have been through so much together and it’s absolutely heartbreaking. 💔
They are the sweetest girls. They were rescued in Afghanistan with their mom who had two broken legs. They have survived so much and they deserve a forever, loving home 🙏
Diva and Ella are currently in VA, but can be transported to an approved foster or adopter. Please tag and share or apply to foster or adopt at www.ttdr.org Thank you 🙏

Risotto I currently at Care St. Louis in Missouri.
💔 Risotto isn’t doing well in the shelter 💔
He’s scared, stressed, and just wants someone to love him. You can see it in his eyes — he’s trying so hard to hold on.
Risotto might need to be your one and only, but the love he’ll give you in return will fill your whole heart. Please consider fostering or adopting him — he doesn’t deserve to keep living in a kennel.

🐾🐾 Scribbles Scratch 📝 "it hits a little different when I see a post from a volunteer pleading for a dog to foster or adopt. Even more so since I know Kirby personally. Let's get this guy out of the shelter life.
Kirby is currently at Naws In Mokena IL.
This is what the lady wrote about him :
"I’ve posted about Kirby before.. and I’ll continue to do so....
Until his very own humans are found.. until he has his very own home filled with love and patience.
He deserves this and more.
Please help me spread the word about this beautiful boy whose current home is at Naws in Mokena. ❤️🐾"
365 Days.... 😔
The amount of time our sweet, loving and deserving Kirby has been waiting for his forever family to come. Why he's been waiting so long? We couldn't tell you. It confuses us just as much as it breaks our hearts.
This adorable boy is a 2 year old house hippo (Pittie) mix. Kirby is a certified kissing machine, ladies man, and GOOD boy. Anyone who has had the opportunity to meet our sweet Kirby knows he can't help but cover you in kisses. Some of his favorite activities are going on walks, basking in the sun, and playing with his toys. He is an active, curious and incredibly loving boy. Kirby can be a bit timid, but after a treat or two, he is covering you in kisses. He does well with children and loves everyone he meets. We say he is a ladies man, because he prefers female dogs who are close to his size. Kirby would prefer a home with no kitties. Kirby promises to give you all the love, and fill your home with so much joy. Please consider opening your home to a pup who has been waiting far too long, you will not regret it!
💙Kirby would greatly benefit from a foster home while we wait for his forever home to come. If you are interested in fostering, please email Victoria at Victoria@nawsus.org.💙

Hugo is currently at APL out of Anderson Indiana.
Hugo-URGENT 🆘
*found wandering in between a pizza shop and a spa, picked up by animal control on 9/11*
2 years old
45 lbs
HW-
Hugo’s name describes him best—The name Hugo comes from the Old German word hug, meaning "heart," "mind," or "spirit". Translation—we have a smart, strong, hugger of a dog ready for his new life. Who doesn’t want his attributes at their table?!
Hugo is a very friendly boy and loves people—prefers them actually. His previous life was not a kind one and the wounds on his body tell that story (likely from dog fighting). Regardless, he was loose and wiggly for his intake exam and proves to be nothing but adorable and very affectionate for his walkers and staff—belly rubs are a must! Intelligent, this boy is and he shows it as he aptly sits, shakes, and stays down when you ask! Hugo is ready to leave the kennel chaos in exchange for a headrest on your lap (while watching documentaries or philosophical commentary of course).
Dogs-nope,not for him
Cats-too scary, no thanks
Hugo is listed as urgent because he is reactive to dogs when going in and out of the kennels. He has what appears to be multiple bite wounds on his body in various stages of healing (currently being treated). He is unhappy in the crowded, noisy kennel and needs out!

Snickers is available through APL out of Anderson, Indiana.
Snickers-needs IMMEDIATE placement!
*surrendered 11/7/25 due to owner not having a home
Male
2 years
46lb
HW(-)
Snickers is just as sweet as his candy bar namesake! 🍫 He’s gentle & kind taking treats, like a true gentleman. He loves being outside & chasing squeaky toys but don’t ask him to bring the toys back, we’re still working on that!
Dogs-tense meeting dogs at the shelter, previous owner stated he had not been around them
Cats-tense meeting cats at the shelter, previous owner stated he had not been around them
Kids-previous owner stated he had been around kids ages 1, 3, and 6 with no issues
Snickers’ world was turned upside down when his owner surrendered him. He’s been very frustrated since arriving…can you blame him?? He is URGENT due to arguing with neighbors around him, lack of socialization with other dogs, and for redirecting his frustrations on staff by biting at feet & hands.

Jelly Jar is Located At Care St. Louis in Missouri.
🚨 SOS — we are begging with our whole chest.
Jelly Jar is so stressed in his kennel that he’s started licking the walls… yes, to the point the paint is coming off. That’s our cue to hustle.
The good news? He had the cutest little play session with Luanda the other day 🥹 and with slow, proper introductions, we think he could absolutely have a dog friend in the home.
He needs a break. He needs a human. He needs out.
Come meet Jelly Jar.

Vivi is at Chicago Animal Control in Illinois. (High Kill shelter)
Last chance to help Viví! It’s so sad, she is in Chicago Animal Control as a lost dog, her owners probably tossed her aside after breeding her for puppies 😢She is so loving , polite and gentle, she probably was the best mother, and now her life will be ended here in the shelter. She will never have a loving home to know what a good life really is 😢She likes other dogs and looks for playmates when she gets out for a walk. Please share, this is it for her and it breaks our heart that no one will come to meet her!

Glacier is currently available through Naws in Mokena Illinois.
Glacier is a 2-year-old pit mix whose past tells a story no dog should ever have to live. He was found emaciated, frightened, with pressure sores -the kind that don’t happen overnight, the kind that come from sitting in a crate for far too long, forgotten by the world.
We don’t know what Glacier endured before he came to us. We don’t know how many days passed without kindness, comfort, or love. What we do know is that despite everything, Glacier is still here. Still trying. Still hoping. Because of what he’s been through, Glacier can be unsure at first, and who could blame him? Trust doesn’t come easily when it’s been broken so deeply. Right now, we feel he would be most comfortable as the only pet, where he can finally exhale and learn what it means to be someone’s whole world.
We know the reality. Dogs like Glacier are often overlooked. Passed by. Made to wait longer than most. And waiting is the hardest part for him each day without a home makes it easier for him to shut down a little more. Glacier needs a hero. Someone willing to stand up for him, to choose him, to show him that his life can be more than what it once was. Glacier is ready to be loved. Please don’t make him wait any longer.
Interested in fostering Glacier? Help us save his life and another by doing so.

Buddy is currently at Orangeburg County Animal Services in South Carolina.
Buddy, our handsome black and white Bully mix boy, has been carrying a broken heart for far too long. Buddy was picked up last year, and sadly… his owners have not come for him.
We even tried reaching out to see if he still had a home waiting, but there has been no response.
He has been left behind. 😭 💔
Now Buddy sits in his kennel without a place to call his own, wondering what he did wrong. He didn’t choose this. He didn’t choose to be forgotten. But he is still choosing to hope.
Buddy is looking for someone who will be his perfect fit — someone who sees beyond the shelter walls and into the loyal, loving soul he truly is. He deserves stability. He deserves kindness. Most of all, he deserves to finally belong.
If any rescue, foster, or adopter can step up for Buddy, please reach out.

Rainbow is currently at APL in Anderson Indiana
Rainbow-URGENT 🆘
*Arrived as a very pregnant stray on 2/17/24. Spent 1 1/2 years in foster where she safely delivered & nursed her puppies. Returned to the shelter on 8/11/25 through no fault of her own.
5 1/2 years old
Female
53lbs
HW(-)
Rainbow’s life has been anything but a rainbow. She wound up being a mom at 3 years old, delivered & nursed her puppies & watched them get adopted one by one while she waited for her turn. And her turn never came. So she waited some more, trying to be big & brave for the world, but deep inside she’s always been a little unsure of new things. When she found herself back at the shelter, it quickly became overwhelming for her.
We’re hoping things turn around for Rainbow. She is a great walking buddy, knows basic commands, and food is the way to her heart! Give her a puzzle feeder & she’s a happy camper…she gets to work her brain AND her belly!!! Based on Rainbow’s personality, we think she’d be happiest in a calm home being a couch snuggler!
Dogs-nervous meeting dogs, slow introductions would be best
Cats-no thanks
Kids-older kids would be best due to her being timid
Rainbow is urgent due to her constant barking to get out of her kennel, her high level of stress, and being anxious in her kennel.
Rainbow is available for foster, adoption, or rescue through Rhe The Animal Protection League Inc., Indiana. www.inapl.org
