Tink is available to foster or adopt through NAWS.
Meet Tink! She is a 2 year old Pittie mix.
Tink's story is an unfortunate one. Tink is a special needs pup who came to us in 2023 at 8 weeks old. Her foster adopted her as a puppy, and recently had to return her to NAWS. Tink is heartbroken, depressed, lost, the list goes on..
As a puppy, Tink was diagnosed with a neurological condition that affects her back legs and bladder. Tink grew up to gain lots of strength in her back legs, and wears diapers to help control her bladder. She gets around great! You would never guess that at one point in her life she had trouble walking! Tink is looking for a family that will not give up on her. The lack of stability in her life has made her quite stressed. She will beed slow introductions to any other dogs in the home. She has lived with cats, and loves everyone she meets!
If you would like to meet Tink, please submit an Adoption Application at the link below?? or contact Dogadoption@nawsus.org to get in touch with our team.

If you are interested in fostering Tink, please email Victoria at Victoria@nawsus.org
Davina is currently up for adoption at Fetching Tails Foundation.
Divina has been with us for two years. This sweet girl has been through SO much in her 5 years of life - she was hit by a car in Texas, and her pelvis and hip were severely fractured and left her with nerve damage. Because of this accident, she's somewhat incontinent. With routine and a devoted foster home, she's done so well these last two years and just needs a special family to take a chance on her. Divina will thank you with endless love, kisses, snuggles, and a walking companion. She is great with other dogs and everyone she meets... she just needs that special someone to say yes and give her a chance.
If you're interested in learning more about Divina, we would love to hear from you. She's a special lady, and she deserves to find her forever! 🏠

Raven is currently at Marion County Animal Shelter.
We know it’s 1 in a million but we do have a handful of dogs here that need to be the only pet in a home. Maybe it’s not you but maybe an elderly family member who needs a companion? Maybe you know a bachelor who needs a companion? Maybe if you share this post it will end up on the page of someone who can give raven the home she needs.
Raven is a mush when it comes to people. Raven loves toys, walks, the water she is all around a good dog expect for her distaste for other dogs. Raven listens well and is a house hippo. She is not much of a barker and does well in a crate.
Raven is a spayed female, around 5 years old and heartworm Postive ( we will cover that to get her into a forever home )
Could you be the one for Raven?

August is currently at Rowan county animal shelter in North Carolina.
URGENT LAST DAY 8/4/25
Meet Augi a 13 Yr old pit mix!
This sweet boy was surrendered today by his owner after 13 years of loyalty
This sweet boy as a senior has a few issues that that comes with aging. He has some skin irritation, missing a little bit of hair.
The vet did say dermatitis with infection, but he is being treated for that! He does have a little bit of a hard time walking, which seems to be mild arthritis, which comes with an aging dog
They surrendered him because they didn’t wanna deal with him anymore
I usually try to be very professional and not bash the owners but this one I will honestly say got to me
My heart absolutely breaks for him. I’ll be honest with you. I even cried when I heard about him, I can’t even imagine, bringing him up to the counter and turning around and walking away.
Do you know what it’s like in a shelter? It’s loud dogs are barking. It’s very scary for any dog and this senior does not deserve this. This sweet boy needs someone that can adopt him and let him live out the rest of his days on A big fluffy, comfy bed with lots of kisses
I really need everyone to share this baby. Let’s get him a home.
He is also heartworm negative!

Yunai is available through Traveling Tails Dog Rescue
Foster or Adopter Needed in early June 🐾
Yunai is a 4 year old mixed breed female. She was rescued after getting hit by a car which cost her a leg when she was barely 6 months old.
Yunai may be a tripod but you wouldn’t know it when you see her running around and playing with other dogs. She adores human attention and is generous with her kisses.
Yunai is a sweet friendly girl and would do best with an active family with other dogs. She is medium energy/size and is extremely gentle with kids.

Ernie is currently at Naperville area Humane Society in Illinois.
365 Days Without a Home. 💔
One year ago today, Ernie walked through our doors at Naperville Area Humane Society. Since then, he has watched hundreds of tails wag their way into forever homes… but not his.
A whole year without a family or someone to call his own. He has missed his people's birthdays, snuggling on lazy Sundays, and countless moments and memories that should’ve been his.
Ernie isn’t just a dog, he is a loyal best friend for life. A warm heart with so much love left to give. He still greets each day with hope. Still believes love is out there for him. And we do too.
Please consider opening your heart and home to Ernie and share his story with your friends and family.
Let’s not let another year go by unseen.

Coraline is still waiting at Naws in Mokena iL.
Just under a year old, Coraline has spent nearly her entire life in our care. Growing up at NAWS while the world moved on without her... Our hearts break for her daily.
Coraline came to us with her 2 siblings, all of them found with zip ties around their necks. While we’ll never know what happened to them, Coraline told us everything we needed to know with her fear and weariness of people. She was the most afraid. The one who shook in the corner. The one who wouldn’t make eye contact. The one we knew had been hurt the most..
Her siblings have all been adopted. Their new lives began… but Coraline was left behind.
And still, she waits..
Coraline is a Pittie mix with a gentle soul and eyes that carry the weight of what she’s been through. She’s made progress with us, but she needs more than we can give, she needs a home.
She needs someone patient. Someone kind. Someone who will see her not as broken, but as becoming. Because we’ve seen glimpses of the dog she’s meant to be, the tail wags, the soft lean into your leg, the quiet trust slowly building. Coraline does well with other dogs and would prefer a home with older children.
✨ Coraline deserves that chance. ✨
🖤Coraline would greatly benefit from a foster home while she waits for her forever to come. If you are interested in fostering, email Victoria at Victoria@nawus.org.🖤
If you would like to meet Coraline, please submit an Adoption Application at the link below⬇️ or contact Dogadoption@nawsus.org to get in touch with our team.

DIVA and Ella can be helped through Traveling Tails Dog Rescue
Please, Please, Please Share these girls! 🙏
Diva and Ella say STILL need a home! On June 4th it was a year that they have been without a forever home 😭
Diva and Ella from Afghanistan were returned back to the rescue a few weeks ago. After months of looking for a match for either one or both of the girls, they are back with us in foster.
Please help us find them a home either together or sadly separately at this point.
Both girls are 3 years old, around 38 pounds, potty trained and good with other dogs. We are requiring a fenced yard and a doggie friend for them if they get fostered or adopted separately. Ella is good with kids and Diva is shy around new people and would do better with older kids. No cats! These two girls have been through so much together and it’s absolutely heartbreaking. 💔
They are the sweetest girls. They were rescued in Afghanistan with their mom who had two broken legs. They have survived so much and they deserve a forever, loving home 🙏
Diva and Ella are currently in VA, but can be transported to an approved foster or adopter. Please tag and share or apply to foster or adopt at www.ttdr.org Thank you 🙏
Molly is currently at Rescue Tails in South Carolina
Sweet Molly is still waiting… and wondering why.
Molly has been patiently watching her foster siblings head off to forever homes one by one, and she can’t help but wonder—when will it be her turn?
This gentle girl is the total package:
🐶 Dog friendly
🐱 Cat friendly
🦮 Walks beautifully on leash
💖 A little shy at first, but once she knows she’s safe? Oh, get ready. You’ll be on the receiving end of the softest snuggles, belly rub demands, and the kind of “please give me a treat” eyes that could melt the coldest heart.
To help Molly succeed, her wonderful foster is offering a 1–3 week transition period to make sure she adjusts at her own pace and feels truly at home.
She’s not asking for much—just a soft place to land, someone patient and kind, and a forever person to love her as she is.
Could that person be you? 💕
Willow is currently at Hilton Head Animal shelter in South Carolina.
Willow came to us when her owner could no longer care for her. At 11 years old, she had already given so much love in her life—and still had so much more to offer. We made sure she felt safe and cared for, but what she really needed was a home.
And now, she has one.
Her new adopter saw what we see in every dog who walks through our doors: potential, loyalty, and a deep capacity for connection. The bond was immediate—and real.
Senior dogs like Willow are often overlooked, but they bring something truly special. They’re calm, loving, and deeply grateful. If you’ve ever thought about adopting, let Willow’s story be your reminder: sometimes the perfect match is waiting quietly, just hoping to be noticed.
Consider opening your home to a dog who needs a second chance. The love you’ll receive in return is unmatched..
Smuckers is available at I care St Louis, Missouri
Smuckers is one inconvenience away from quitting the shelter system entirely.
She’s 3 years old, 41 pounds of sass, snuggles, and unbothered side-eyes. She loves kids, adores people, and has even started making dog friends—but don't let that fool you. She will sit like this and judge everyone until she gets adopted.
Her hobbies include dramatic belly crawls, emotionally manipulating you with her eyes, and plotting her exit via maximum cuteness.
Take her home before she files a formal complaint with the universe.

Cooper is currently at APL out of Indiana.
Cooper-‼️URGENT‼️
Male
6 years
HW status unknown at this time
Cooper’s entire life has been turned upside down. He arrived Friday due to severe jealousy of the new baby in the home. It was just him & the cats for 6 years, and a new baby was too much for him to handle.
Dogs-Per his owner, Cooper has been around dogs over the years & has done well with them.
Cats-Per his owner, Cooper LOVES cats! See picture in the comments.
Kids-Per his owner, even though he was extremely jealous of the new baby, Cooper is great with kids, even toddlers!
**Cooper has not officially been temp tested at the shelter.

Dionysus is currently at Humane Indiana.
🐺 Help Dionysus Find a Home – A Senior Soul Waiting 125 Days and Counting🖤
Dionysus is a 10-year-old mix with the quiet, wild beauty of a creature carved from myth—like he wandered straight from an ancient forest with eyes that have seen too much. Once, there may have been joy in those eyes. Now, there’s only waiting.
He has been in the shelter for too long. Too many nights behind bars. Too many mornings with no one coming for him. He’s not barking for attention anymore. He just... waits. Quietly.
He’s breaking in a way that’s hard to watch. The light inside him dims as the kennel walls close in. He doesn’t know if love is coming.
And yet, he still hopes. Still presses his face to the front of his kennel when someone walks by. Still believes, in some small, aching way, that someone might see him.
He doesn’t ask for much. A warm place to rest his old bones. A quiet home. Someone gentle. Someone kind. Someone to remind him that he matters.
He’s not just a senior dog. He’s a soul unraveling in silence.
Please consider showing this old man that there is a loving home out there for him. And if you can’t adopt, sharing his story might be the one act that changes everything.

Peach is currently at Animal Protection League in Andersonville Indiana
This beautiful brindle girl named Peach once belonged to someone. We know it in our hearts — she arrived at our shelter back in early February on a cold, frosty morning with painted toenails, a quiet soul, and a look that said she didn’t understand where her people had gone.
We were certain someone would come for her. But now, nearly four months later, Peach is still waiting… and losing a bit of hope with each passing day.
Shelter life is hard on her. What began as timid uncertainty has slowly turned into frustration and stress inside the noisy kennels. She needs — and deserves — to be back in a loving home where she can feel safe, valued, and adored once more.
Here’s what we know about this sweet soul:
💔 A true heartbreaker among our staff and volunteers
🐾 Brindle beauty with a quiet elegance — and painted toenails to prove she was once loved
🛋️ A perfect balance of playful and chill — likely to become your ultimate couch companion
🐕 Loves her walks, though she gets excited and needs a little help with leash manners
🎓 Knows how to sit and takes treats with gentle care
🐶 Picky with her dog friends, so a proper intro is a must
🐱 No cats, please
👶 Children: unknown, but likely best in a calmer home setting
Peach is ready to leave the shelter behind and start the next chapter of her life. Will you be the one to remind her what it feels like to be home again?
📍 Apply to meet Peach today — and show her that someone still will come.

🐾🐾 Scribbles Scratch 📝 "it hits a little different when I see a post from a volunteer pleading for a dog to foster or adopt. Even more so since I know Kirby personally. Let's get this guy out of the shelter life.
Kirby is currently at Naws In Mokena IL.
This is what the lady wrote about him :
"I’ve posted about Kirby before.. and I’ll continue to do so....
Until his very own humans are found.. until he has his very own home filled with love and patience.
He deserves this and more.
Please help me spread the word about this beautiful boy whose current home is at Naws in Mokena. ❤️🐾"
365 Days.... 😔
The amount of time our sweet, loving and deserving Kirby has been waiting for his forever family to come. Why he's been waiting so long? We couldn't tell you. It confuses us just as much as it breaks our hearts.
This adorable boy is a 2 year old house hippo (Pittie) mix. Kirby is a certified kissing machine, ladies man, and GOOD boy. Anyone who has had the opportunity to meet our sweet Kirby knows he can't help but cover you in kisses. Some of his favorite activities are going on walks, basking in the sun, and playing with his toys. He is an active, curious and incredibly loving boy. Kirby can be a bit timid, but after a treat or two, he is covering you in kisses. He does well with children and loves everyone he meets. We say he is a ladies man, because he prefers female dogs who are close to his size. Kirby would prefer a home with no kitties. Kirby promises to give you all the love, and fill your home with so much joy. Please consider opening your home to a pup who has been waiting far too long, you will not regret it!

Little Debbie is currently at Genesee County Animal Control 4351 W. Pasadena Ave., Flint, MI
Little Debbie – Returned, Heartbroken, and Waiting 💔🐾
This is Little Debbie—and her story is one of those that just sticks with you.
Debbie had a home. A loving home. Her people adored her. She slept in a cozy bed, went outside when she wanted, lounged in the sun, and knew what it meant to be cherished. But there were cats. And Little Debbie doesn’t like cats. As hard as her family tried, it just wasn’t going to work. So, with broken hearts, they brought her back.
Now she’s back in a kennel. And she’s not okay.
She cries. She pancakes to the ground when it’s time to go back into her run. She doesn’t understand why she’s here again. If you’ve seen the videos, you can see it in her body—she’s shutting down.
Debbie is about 4 years old, 57 pounds, and she’s listed as selective with other dogs. Honestly? We’d love to see her as the only pet in the home. She needs time to decompress. To breathe. To feel safe again. To heal.
She did so well in a home. She was loved. She was perfect—just not with cats. That’s all. That’s the only reason she’s back.
And now… she’s struggling.
Please, if you can give Little Debbie a quiet home where she can feel safe and loved again—she will give you her whole heart.

The happy, once playful boy you see on the left, is quickly losing hope & is now the defeated boy you see on the right, reaching out for a lifeline.
Simba is an easy walker, and once out of the shelter, he typically enjoys romping around the yards & playing with toys! He’s smart & sweet & an all around gentle boy.
Dogs-Not thrilled meeting dogs in the stressful shelter. Could potentially live with another dog given a proper, slow introduction, but might prefer being your one & only!
Cats-Cool, calm & collected meeting cats, slow introductions are always recommended
Kids-Unknown
Simba is urgent due to “poop smearing” in his kennel, being anxious, depressed, losing weight & arguing with his kennel neighbors.

Hondo is at greenville Humane in South Carolina
Meet Hondo. He’s blind. He’s lumpy. He’s got one eye that points to heaven and one that quit the job entirely. His tail? It wags like it’s trying to send a Morse code SOS. Honestly, we’re not sure what kind of dog he is - possibly a cross between a piglet, a loaf of bread, and your uncle's old recliner.
But listen. Hondo is PURE LOVE in a slightly crumpled wrapper. He navigates life by smell, snuggles like it’s his full-time job, and snorts like a tiny pig when he’s excited (which is often).
He may not win Best in Show, but he will win your weird little heart. But in all seriousness, Hondo is the PERFECT boy. He loves kids, other dogs, and is potty and crate trained. He’s a diamond in the “ruff”, and ready to change your life.

EJ is available Through Famous Fido Dog Rescue in Illinois
URGENT: EJ NEEDS A HOME BY THE WEEKEND!
EJ’s story is one we’ll never forget, because it nearly ended before it even had a chance to begin.
He’s only one year old, just a baby, and his former family took him to be euthanized because he didn’t get along with their new dog. No second chance. No training. No time. Just a heartbreaking decision that almost cost him his life. When our vet called us, we dropped everything to save him. We couldn’t bring him into our already full center, but we made it work, boarding him at the clinic, covering costs day by day, hoping his person would come along.
Now we’re getting close to the end of the week, and still… no one has stepped up. No adoption. No foster. And no space left for him to stay.
We want to see this baby get a home. EJ is sweet, loyal, and just needs to be the only dog in a calm, loving household. Please, don’t let him be failed again. Apply to adopt now and give EJ the life he was so close to losing.

Merle is at peidmont Animal Rescue in North Carolina
Meet Merle—a 13-year-old Chocolate Lab who’s basically Mooresville famous. Why? Because this silver-snouted escape artist spent his entire life chained up outside… but he had other plans.
Skinny, starving, and sick of being treated like yesterday’s leftovers, Merle kept slipping his collar and booking his own staycations across town. No fence could hold him. No leash could dim his sparkle. He was showing up everywhere—front porches, sidewalks, driveways—and all over Facebook’s Lost & Found pages like a four-legged Houdini.
The town cried out for someone to help him… and we heard them.

Ozzy is available Through Jay County Humane Society in Indiana.
1 1/2 YEARS behind bars is enough to break any dog. But somehow he hasn’t lost himself.
I met Ozzy last December, after he had already been at Jay County Humane Society for a year. Over half his life has been in a kennel 24/7. I never would have thought it would take this long for someone to adopt him. But there he sits, still waiting, a year & a half later!
I visited Ozzy yesterday & even after alllllll of those dreaded months in the shelter, he still smiles, he still LOVES other dogs, he still LOVES to play with staff & volunteers, and he is still AMAZING! He is a staff & volunteer favorite! He recently went on a day date with a family & they reported that Ozzy was great in the car, loved the water, loved to run full throttle at the park, and loved every dog he met!
Please help me get this perfect boy out of the shelter. He is so deserving of a family. He’s waited so long already, please don’t make him wait any longer.
Ozzy is available for foster, adoption, or rescue through Jay County Humane Society.
Pumpkin is available at Care St. Louis
🚨URGENT FOSTER NEEDED🚨
Magic Lantern Pumpkin is a gentle, senior soul who’s just looking for a soft place to land. She’s sweet, calm, and deserving of peace in her golden years — but right now, she’s struggling.
Her amazing foster has done everything possible to make it work, but with several young, high-energy dogs in the home, it’s become an unsafe situation. There have been multiple fights, and despite every effort to separate and manage, it’s no longer sustainable.
We’re heartbroken to say she needs a new foster immediately — even a temporary safe space would be life-changing for her.
She doesn’t need much… just a quiet, loving place to relax and be safe. Please, if you can help or know someone who can, reach out. This sweet girl deserves better. 💔

Bongo is at APL out of Anderson Indiana
Bongo-URGENT 🆘
*stray who was wondering near a church-brought in by a nice person on 7/8*
1 year old
Male
58 lbs
HW-
$175 in pledges to approved rescue
Mr Boy Bongo is a very sweet cuddler/lap dog who is learning how to dog amongst the chaos in the shelter. He is most comfortable inside of his crate inside of the kennel (see photo) and it has taken him some time to purposefully move in and out of there. He is a nervous fella in the shelter environment and we would love for him to come into his own little personality in a committed, loving, patient home. He seems eager to please once he knows you are safe and has gentle manners with treats. He is walking much better on his leash🐾
Dogs-met one intact female and was a little nervous initially, but was soliciting play. Met another intact male and was friendly and calm. He may benefit from having another doggo to show him the ropes of life. Slow introductions are always required.
Cats-curious/ignored
Bongo is urgent because his life is full of nervous energy and fear in the shelter. He paces his kennel so much that his paw is raw and painful (currently being treated by the shelter). Trazadone was started to help him with his anxiety and some improvements have been observed.

Jolene is currently at its a pittie rescue in Illinois.
🎶 Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Joleeeeene… 🎶
We’re not begging you to please don’t take our man — we’re begging you to take this perfect little velcro dog home.
At 10 years young, Jolene has mastered the fine art of devotion. If you move, she moves. If you sit, she sits. If you breathe, she’s right there making sure you do it correctly.
🛋 Couch? She’s already there, saving your spot.
🚗 Car ride? Passenger seat secured.
🚽 Bathroom? You’ll never pee alone again.
She’s:
✨ Great with kids
✨ Dog-friendly (bonus points if you’ve got a chill pup)
✨ Cat status TBD
✨ Fluent in sit, shake, and lay down
✨ House & crate trained
✨ Will work for cheese
Sure, JoJo has a tiny bit of senior lady leakage now and then. Nothing wild — just the occasional “oh whoops” drip. But listen… if you’ve ever sneezed too hard, you get it.
Jolene doesn’t care if your life’s perfect. She just wants to be in it — in your house, in your heart, and yes, even in your bathroom.
Apply to adopt her at www.rescueapittie.org
📍 LOCATION: Chicago, IL (adopters to live within 3 hours)

Ace-URGENT 🆘
*owner surrender on 7/2 due to an “overcrowded home”*
5 years
Male
73lbs
HW(-)
Ace, the “trifecta”!
Let me explain…a “trifecta” is a dog who is good with other dogs, cats & kids! So pretty much perfect! This guy keeps his kennel spotless, he is friendly with everyone he meets, and Ace has a pretty chill personality. He’s the perfect age at 5 years old…past the puppy stage of eating your brand new shoes, but still young enough to enjoy all of life’s activities! Like I said, pretty much perfect!
Dogs-lived in a home previously with dogs & also friendly meeting dogs at the shelter
Cats-lived in a home previously with cats
Kids-lived in a home previously with kids as young as 2 years
When you’ve lived with your family for 5 years & they drop you off at an over crowded shelter, one can get very depressed. And that’s exactly what’s happened to Ace. He is URGENT due to depression and not wanting to eat.
Ace is available for foster, adoption, or rescue through The Animal Protection League Inc., Indiana
Doug is currently at APL out of Indiana www.inapl.org
Doug ‼️URGENT‼️
Male
1 year
37lbs
Small but mighty is Doug! He is fierce in his loyalty to his People. So much so, that a busy home with lots of strangers will rock his world. He would prefer a calm, quiet home where he feels safe. Outings around lots of people are not for him, so if you’re looking for a social butterfly you should check out Doug’s friend Sadie who is also URGENT!
Dogs-good with dogs inside the home
Cats-currently crated in the director’s office with cats free roaming around him
Kids-they make him on edge, he would prefer an adult only home
Doug’s stress & anxiety at the shelter is growing worse by the day. He is starting to growl at staff and volunteers. He will need a savvy foster, adopter, or rescue who understands the importance of decompression.
Doug is available for foster, adoption, or rescue through The Animal Protection League Inc., Indiana. www.inapl.org

Martha is currently at Rowen County Animal Shelter in North Carolina
LAST CALL🚨🚨🚨MONDAY IS THOS SWEET GIRLS LAST DAY
This poor girl she is wondering why she is still at the shelter when her sister was adopted already. She awaits her new home. Please come to see her today. The shelter is open until three.
URGENT LAST DAY 7/21/25
This is Martha. She came in with Maude We have posted them together, but we wanted them to have their separate posts. We would love for them to be adopted together, but we also understand that’s hard so please come to meet her and give her her forever home she is so sweet
Hi, I’m Martha — 3 years young, heartworm negative, and powered by vibes and zoomies.
I’ve got a lot of energy, but don’t worry — I do know how to walk on a leash like a lady. A very excited lady. Who saw a squirrel. But still, a lady.
Every photo you’ll see of me? I’m grinning like I just won the lottery — but the real jackpot will be finding my forever family. So if you like long walks, big smiles, and a best friend who’s always ready to party (but politely), come adopt me. I’ll bring the energy, you bring the snacks. Let’s do this.
Love,
Martha 🐾

Draco is available at APL out of Anderson Indiana
Draco-VERY LIMITED TIME 🆘
*Surrendered for being too big on July 17th*
11 months
Male
63 lbs
HW-
$165 in pledges to approved rescue
Young pup with a handsomely huge head and a million dollar 💵 smile! He is very friendly and loves his walks! He is eager to learn new tricks and is doing well working on his manners. He loves to play with toys and chase them-a fun younster looking for someone who will love and play with him!
Previous owner reported him to be house-trained and crate-trained.
Dogs-with proper time to get out his pent-up kennel energy, Draco’s signature has become the alligator crawl! He slowly crawls on his belly towards dogs and sometimes even licks their face! Slow introductions are always a good idea.
Cats-ignored
Kids-previous owner reported he had been around kids of all ages without any issues.
Draco is listed as incredibly urgent due to pent-up energy causing anxiousness. When initially listed as urgent, he was in a chaotic kennel location. Since then, the kennel staff was able to move him and he has improved-doing better! But, he still needs out!
